Many of you who watch my videos email me about playing from fake books and often ask can I make some videos that would help you with that.

Unfortunately, I don’t play from fake books or lead sheets very often and play mainly by ear. However, I have looked into it many times in the past as I do occasionally play from them (especially in the early days when I couldn’t figure out how to play by ear).

One of the best resources for playing from lead sheets is Scott “The piano guy” Houston he has his own show on PBS television and his own youtube channel [click here]. There are lots of cool videos there to watch which are taken directly from his TV Shows with guest artistes playing, discussions on how they play and overhead videos of them playing which you’ve just got to pick something up from. My favourite guest is Jack Widner check out his videos and any that Bradley Sowash has done too.
